about

The entity's form was of many wings one pair wrapped around the next, so that you could never see its full figure beneath. It stood tall and proud in what was left of the town square, its own kin and its enemies both scattered at its feet. Had even one of its brethren survived, none of the traveling party would have survived to recount what they saw.

This being descended toward the heads of the party and a fight began. It lashed out with wings and hurled men and women aside like dust. Their tips were like razors which cut its enemies down in moments.

Again and again, Aurora shot into it, but bullets seemed to sink into its feathers unnoticed. Vincent's old saber, too, proved little match for it. Even Ash's hammer felt useless, yet... With the three mvoing together, and their traveling companions fighting alongside them, with time the entity grew weak.

In a desperate moment of rage it splayed out its wings, one pair at a time. Those unfortunate or slow enough to have not sought cover were burned to the bone as brilliant sunlight spilled from its frame in gold and blue. When it ended, the cold wind seemed cautious to return. In a mist of steam and the smell of burnt flesh, the survivors descended upon the angel, and beat it until it fell.

As they collected their breath, Ash looked at the entity at their feet. Without warning, its wings swept across the roadway and kicked up old dust. Their friends were thrown backward and Ash was alone as it pulled them into the gaping maw of the Wellspring.

Awash in blistering sunlight, Ash was burned away to nothing again and again and again, until their own heart filled with anger at the being. Their soul poured into their hammer and struck the angel over and over. As it died, it spilled its hatred into the Wellspring, and Ash was spit back out into the night. They crouched over their hammer and breathed, their head pounding, and for a moment they felt only a rage that defied any words they could summon.
